Post-Pandemic, Families Are 'Very Hungry' for Normalcy (PR)
Described by The Playhouse as a ‘timeless classic’, The Very Hungry Caterpillar meets the stage to introduce your children to theatre, and invite you back

18th April 2021
Following the most up-to-date government guidelines, Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse theatres are reopening their stage doors. The 15th of July will welcome audiences back with Jonathan Rockefeller’s critically acclaimed production of The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show.
This adaptation of Eric Carle’s iconic stories, familiar to
generations of readers with 43 million copies sold globally, rightfully
acquaints stimulation-starved children with their first magical taste of
theatre. Ideal for families, the show’s nostalgic sentimentality will
reintroduce a sense of post-covid normalcy. This glance into the bigger
brighter world mirrors Rockefeller’s captivatingly colourful illustrations, 75
endearing puppets and 4 simplistically innocent stories.
With Liverpool’s little ones’ childhoods confined from the
isolating repercussions of the pandemic, it is all the more essential to
embrace the stimulating influence of theatre. Provoking imagination,
conversation and infinite possibility, The Very Hungry Caterpillar’s late-50th
birthday deserves to be celebrated.
“Bedazzling! Will mesmerize audiences!” – The Times
“Pure genius” – Live Theatre UK
“A Triumph!” – Time Out
The production will run until the 17th of July,
with Covid-19 health and safety measures in place following the Everyman &
Playhouse’s ‘Taking Steps for a Safe Visit’ promise. With a show-time of
50 minutes, and inclusive audience space accessibility, the Playhouse theatre
caters to families of all shapes and sizes.

Community leader Cathi Wareing states, “the partnership with
Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse theatres has seen 100’s of children and
young people introduced to live theatre; it has been a life-changing
experience”. The Everyman & Playhouse website manifesto states “sharing the
joy of stories develops confidence, builds literacy and boosts wellbeing”, as
we witness the positive effects the arts “bring to people across generations
everyday”. At this moment, as the disconnecting remnants of the pandemic begin
to scatter, the theatre is committed to bring family friendly shows to the
stage that will “ignite passion and inspire littler ones for years to come”.
